It is a term used for a computer file consisting of a map of tiny bits of data called pixels. Its name usually has the file extension .BMP on it so that the computer can recognise that it is a picture file and not a text file or a program.

Bitmap is just a form of data storage in digital photos. A bitmap is a map of bits. Each pixel of the image, based on what color the pixel is, is assigned a bit amount of 1, 4, 8, 16, 24, 32, 48, or 64

Bitmap is one of the more common image formats used nowadays. These files can be identified by their .bmp file extension. There are several other variation based on this format including jpeg, tiff, gif, and png. This type of "raster" image is used instead of vector when image scaling isn't important.

A simple encoding of an image and the default one for microsoft paint. This type of image is good for capturing all of the colors of an image but is terrible for posing to the internet. You may need to save as a jpeg instead.
