This is a rare condition. If there is no other medical problems, don't worry about it. Sometimes this happens when a gene is messed up.It is a good idea to see a foot doctor who will probably x-ray the feet because sometimes this is associated with missing bones in the feet.

Toenails are on the body to protect the upper part of the phalanges. If someone doesn't have toenails they need to be careful not to injure that area, as it is more prone to injury. A person can still lead a happy and healthy life without toenails. Fake toenails can be applied to hide this defect.

I seriously doubt that anyone was born without toenails. It is just a thickening of the keratin on the toes. Toenails are chemically the same as hair. You would have to have serious deformed toes to not have toenails.

I don't have toenails (except on my big toes) but all it has done was made me self conscience. I was told they would grow but they didn't yet it hasn't had no real effect on my life. Also my mom was told that it wasn't rare.

It really isn't a big deal it just means that the carotine in your system wasn't getting to the toes to grow the nails it isn't something that will hurt anything though. If you are concerned go see the doctor and see what they say and recommend. Or you can try doing and internet search on it.

The condition is known as Anonychia or congenital absence of the toenail. This condition is rare and there may be no known cause. However, in some cases, the absence of toenails may be associated with other medical problems. If you have concerns about any other medical conditions I would see a doctor.
