Usually when drugs are past their expiration date their effect or potency is lessened or minimized. One way to learn about the birth control's potency after its expiration date is to check with the manufacturer.

The estrogen becomes unstable. One should most definitly avoid using the expired birth control because it could have an irregular chemical reaction with one's body and cause mood swings or other hormonal problems. If your birth control is past the expiration date, just go refill your prescription. Don't risk it!
