If untreated a sinus infection can cause some very serious problems. Meningitis can develop, a serious infection in the brain that may cause brain damage. A blood clot could form which could lead to a stroke. Sinus infections are easily treated, dont take the chance of serious damage.

evidence indicates that antibiotics are extremely effective in treating sinus infection. however, other opinions state that 60-90% of patients in US and western Europe don`t respond well to antibiotics. although the vast majority of cases are cured without antibiotics, if the symptoms are prolonged amoxicillin or Augmentin, for patients allergic to penicillins clarithromycin, and doxycycline, are used .

If you dont take antibiotics the infection will not go away that fast. When you take antibiotics it takes maybe about seven days untill your infection has gone away. If you use a second time antibiotics it will take more antibiotics.

Depending on the infection and if you are trying to avoid antibiotics, you can take an herbal remedy like Echinacea. Consult your local health store for potency recommendations. The absolute best thing you could do for yourself would be to go to your doctor for a proper diagnosis and recommended medications, to rule out anything more serious than an infection.
