What finish do you put on an outside sign to protect it from the weather?

I live in the north and would like to protect my sign from snow and even salt that is used on the roads.

You can put all kinds of products on the wood to protect it the best is simple linseed oil and it protects the wood very well. You can buy all kinds of types of covering or finishes for stuff outside but they all basically are the same as for wood.

Clear Polyurathane finish is very durable to element exposure. Aplied with a roller ,sprayer or brush. Clean up is easy the newer poly finishes are water based and can be cleaned with water, without the use of harsh solvents.

The finishing of the outside would have to be done with the coating of a good quality washable distemper in order to protect it from the snow or salt or rain etc.

You can put shed or paint with oil paints. Use some good teak woods which is snow resistant and also looks bright
