What factors cause supply and demand curves to shift?

Answer by  pjsfb (221)

Supply and demand shift for 2 reasons. An increase or increase in either one. An increase in supply has the same effect as a decrease in demand, meaning there are more units than buyers in the past, so the effect on price is become lower. When the opposite happens (decrease supply / increase demand), the price goes up.

Demand curves can shift if consumer preferences change, or if technology disrupts an existing market. Supply curves can shift if the availability or price of raw materials changes. In the case of commodity products, weather and natural disasters can also impact supply.
