Make sure you stay professional. Have a full introduction and closing (i.e. Dear Jack... Thank you, Your name). Since email is so difficult to judge mood and intent, do not include any jokes or sarcasm. Make sure it is appropriate and professional and the recipient will thank you for it.

Use complete sentences with correct grammar, spelling and syntax. Do NOT use emoticons or text-speak of any kind. Be direct. Use a normal font. Separate your ideas into paragraphs. Do not attach pictures, gifs, etc that are not relevant to your inquiry.

When writing to a business, use a more formal tone. This involves correct grammar and punctuation, as well as spelling. It is vital that you avoid profanity or slang.
