The Coast Guard is a branch of United States Armed Forces, but they also serve as a maritime law enforcement agency. They frequently perform search and rescue operations, keep watch for illegal immigrants and contraband smugglers, and protect the maritime environment from hazardous chemical spills (such as oil).

As the name suggests, the first mission of the Coast Guard is to guard our nation's coastal waters. They also serve the public boating community by providing assistance in an emergency. Any young person interested in serving our country should consider enlisting in the Coast Guard.
