Baptists are generally very supportive of the pledge of allegiance. The pledge states one nation "under god", which draws criticism from atheists and other non believers, and most Baptists do not agree with that criticism. The United States became such a powerful and prosperous and populous nation because of the religious freedoms it introduced at its formation.

There is nothing in the Baptist doctrines that says saying the Pledge of Allegiance is wrong. In fact, most Baptists would encourage their children to live by the biblical standard of respecting those in authority and praying for leaders, and part of that patriotism is expressed through reciting the Pledge.

The Baptist religion historically is one of the strongest God and Country religions there is. As a matter of fact the baptist were largely in support of the movement to ad the words "Under God" to the pledge in 1948. (look up Francis Bellamy)

The primary Baptist denominations do not prohibit the recitation of the pledge of allegiance. The pledge is not considered a subordination of religion to the state. Notably, the pledge in its current form acknowledges the nation "under God. " Often, traditional Baptists are quite patriotic, and would often advocate saying the pledge in connection with a prayer.

Baptists believe that separation of church and state doesn't mean that the state can't acknowledge God's providence, control or authority. They are very proud that one of their own, Baptist minister Francis Bellamy (1855-1931), wrote the pledge in 1892. Interestingly, it was a 1952 Knights of Columbus campaign that prompted Congress to add the words "under God" to the pledge.

In many Baptist churches, the pledge of allegiance is recited in worship services, particularly on/near national holidays. The pledge of allegiance is an important statement about commitment to our country and recognition of God's blessing on a country which is founded on His principles.
