It is an expression used to describe something that is believed to be unbreakable (ie. legal contracts). The expression comes from Civil War in the US. A new type of naval ship developed for use, the ship were encased in large plates of steel, thus giving it greater protection. This ship was said to be Iron Clad.

Steel Clad is a Bi-metallic product used in the wire industry. Also called "copper-covered steel". It is commonly used as drop wires for telephone cables, inner conductor of coaxial cables and cable TV. It is preferred by oil companies for price concern and it provide greater span length compared to copper.
