What does it mean if my goldfish has a black eye?

Goldfish change colors, so this probably nothing to be worried about. Simple changes in water temperature or food intake can cause this change, as well.

Most likely it has to do with the fish maturing. Fish change colors as they get older and this could be an example of that. Also test your water to make sure nothing could have happened. Check temperature as well as if you have changed its diet in any way that may have caused the black eye.

Colors on a fish are pretty much as the colors on a dog it is whatever the pigment of the skin is it will dominate scale color.

It could possibly be an infection and might need to be checked out by a professional especially if this has just developed.
