The food you serve at an event of this sort is a variety of hors d'oeuvres, finger food or food that can be eaten with a small fork. Serve 10 hot food choices and 10 ten cold. Any type of drink can be served, alcoholic and non alcoholic.

It's your wedding. You should serve the foods you like to eat. There is no right and wrong. A wedding day is all about what the bride and groom want.

Instead of trying to serve every cocktail, choose one or two cocktails and make a pitcher of each. Also serve something interesting and fun but non-alcholic, like a basil lemonade. Then select some appetizers: at least one item that's salty, one that's sweet, one that's chocolate, one that's fruity. Make sure they don't all have dairy products or nuts.

Cocktail receptions typically serve appetizers and drinks instead of having a tradional sit-down meal. You should have a selection of hot and cold appetizers and items that are filling enough to substitute for dinner in case some of your guests have not eaten. Chicken skewers and shrimp cocktail are two common examples.
