What do you call the kind of hats that soldiers wear?

There are different kinds of headwear, depending on the service and the particular uniform. There are BDU caps (being phased out), ABU caps (newer), service caps, garrison caps, flight caps, watch caps, berets, combination caps. You can research the particulars of each service's uniforms online.

The soldiers around here wear a special kind of hat called a beret. It is folded in a certain way to look military if that makes any sense. They come in either green or burgandy, though most of the soldiers wear burgandy ones.

The term that all branches of the military use for their hats is cover. Each branch also has specialized names for specific covers. Ex. Special Forces wear the green beret.
