What do technical writers do?

I'm thinking about looking for jobs, but I'm not exactly sure what technical writing is.

A technical writer designs, edits and/or updates technical documentation, such as user guides, specifications, white papers, manuals and other documents.

Technical writers write articles or manuals on technical topics. This can include press releases or manuals for electonics, or more. The goal is to include a lot of technical or scientific information in a text that is understandable to regular readers. Most technical writers have some sort of science or engineering background, along with writing training.
