What do I need to know to take care of a horse?

That it takes alot of care and money to have a horse. Feeding, boarding, shoeing, vet work, and time to spend with the horse. That they need to be cared for daily, and alot of people do not have that kind of time. Boarding a horse is expensive, so think twice before excepting the responsibility.

Go to a local stable and volunteer to work there. That will give you an opportunity to learn about feeding, grooming, stabling, and routine equine care.

You need to realise the time involved, they need daily grooming and exercise, rugs in winter, regular farriery, they need human interaction firmly but fairly and they need equine company

You need to be ready for this commitment. Horses need tons of care. They need to be fed several times a day, have Vet care and have their hooves trimmed.
