Make sure it not to heavy, it fits your hand well, and you can draw it back. Make sure it fires well and that it feels dependable.

When you go to buy your first bow you must make sure you are comfortable with the feel of the weight of it as well as the pressure when you pull back the strings. You'll also need to see if you are left or right handed.

A Sporting good store would help answer your questions about which brands are best. Consider what hand you use to write with. If you are left handed get a left handed bow, if you are right handed get a right handed bow. They size of the bow depends on how big you are.

You should get the most from your budget by buying the right kind of bow. If you will be using it for target shooting, you need to have a certain weight, length, grip, stabilizer, arrow rest and the correct arrows. Hunters and 3-D shooters will have a slightly different set up that target shooters.
