Dogs, like people, have only one liver, which aids in digestion and helps eliminate waste. Certain enzymes may be elevated, which might signal a problem. Talk to your veterinarian.

An elevated liver count can be an early warning for possible disease in your dog and should be followed up by more testing to determine any risk.

It depends. Elevated liver enzymes mean an increase in liver function. This could be due to a reaction to medication your pet is on and may decrease once they are off of it, chronic liver disease, or even cancer. Your vet will probably want to do additional tests to find the specific reason for the elevation.

This means that the function of the animals liver is not as it should be and therefore some action should be taken to remedy that. A vet will be able to prescribe medication if that is what needs to be done.

This is not uncommon in middle age dogs but if symptoms occur-appetite loss, diarrhea, vomiting-this is serious. It can also be a sign of hyperthyroidism, or overproduction of thyroid hormone. Milk thistle is recommended for liver problems.

If your dogs liver enzymes are only moderately elevated there may be no concern unless your dog is experiencing other symptoms. Other symptoms that are worrisome with an elevated liver count would be diarrhea or vomiting, lethargy or changes in your dogs appetite. Further testing can be done if you or your vet is concerned.
