Using fungicides and pruning to remove knots will help control black knot fungus. Plum pockets will cause loss of fruit. Prevent infection in spring by spraying with lime sulfur/water.

This is a fairly loaded question, as with all trees, plants and botanical items in general, there are many different species which should be considered. With any plant "ailment" there are many symptoms which can be considered. You should research your plant types, this could be one thing or another.

I don't think there is anything you can do. But going to nursery to ask would be your best chioce to make. They can help you out with what is going on with the tree.
