Art Deco is in the eye of the beholder. Normally, it refers to chrome legs having a Formica top in shades of red, green or gold which was popular in the late 1950's and 60's. A wooden table could also be handpainted in bright colors using a theme such as stars and moons or florals.

Art Deco employed streamlined, geometric styles with curves, clean lines, chrome, glass. It was a scaled down response to the opulence of the Art Nouveau. It was originally called Style Moderne, or the 1925 style. Look at the Chryslerand Empire State Buildings, that will give you a clear feeling.
