This is a condition known as ptyalism, which could be due to neurological disorders, digestive problems, metabolic disorders, or high body temperature. Ingesting certain medicines or toxins can also cause this problem. In this case, excessive salivation may be an attempt to flush the irritant from the mouth. Check with your vet if the excessive drooling does not go away.

A negative reaction to food or a flea and tick ointment can cause excessive drooling. If it continues, get you cat to vet, because it could be serious.

He could have a sore in his mouth. Check for tenderness, loose teeth or cuts inside your cats mouth. One of those could be causing excessive drooling.
