This is not a good sign at all as black can mean a large presence of blood. You really need to have this puppy looked at by a vet, preferably with a fresh stool sample so that it can be looked at under a microscope. Your vet should palpitate the puppy's stomach, too.

Your puppy can have diaharrhea, which is caused by dehydration. Puppies tend to dehydrate very easily. Increase your puppy's fluids and make sure they are not too warm. If the condition does not improve, take your puppy to the vet promptly. Your puppy may need to get some medication.

This is usually caused by not getting enough water into their system. It could depend on the type of food they eat also.

Black stools in dogs can be caused by blood in the stool, which is a very serious situation. However, it could also be caused by certain medications, such as pepto bismol. If you know that your puppy has not ingested any such medications you should contact your vet.
