If the vehicle is rear wheel drive and the noise is coming from the rear of the vehicle the most likely cause is the differential joint between the drive shaft and the rear end. This joint is exposed to road water and dirt that causes it to dry out and fail.It is considered normal wear.

Their are many things that can cause a grinding sound when one drives a Ford. The most potential sources for a grinding sound would be the brake rotors and or the parking brake. Also the transmission or rear axel could cause a grinding sound as well.In any case one should not continue driving the car with this noise.

A grinding noise in a car can typically be the result of brakes going bad or rubbing against a rotor. It can also be the result of a bad rotor in and of itself. It is best to have mechanic check it out, because the problem could be more severe. It could be a suspension problem as well.

A gringing npoise could be a lot of things. Id have to hear it to diagnose but. most often something like that is because of your brakes. most brakes have a wear indicator that will scrape intentionally and make grinding or squeeling noises while driving to let you know brakes need to be replaced before damage is done to rotors.
