What could be wrong if my BMW will not upshift?

Well if you have an automatic transmission then you may have low pressure issue. Check your fluid and filter to make sure they are fine. The check the line pressure to make sure it has enough to operate. If you have a manual then you many have a synchronizer issue.

The likely problem here would be that your vehicle is suffering from a terrible transmission problem. Another possible thing would be a bad shift solenoid.

this is what could be wrong if your bmw wont up shift the fluid is very low in your transmission or then bands are starting to go another reason could be the gears in your transmission where grinding in witch case you would need to buy a whole new transmission

Most if the time this is simply a lack of transmission fluid being at the right level. Other causes could be worn or broken disc plates inside the transmission housing.
