Question by  jjaded (1)

What could be the cause of the lower 1/2 of both eyeballs to be darker than the top?

The top part that's covered by my eyelids is very bright white. The bottom 1/2 is not really a different color, just a 'dirty white' or maybe slightly bluish.

This could be dryness, pingueculae, melanosis, or thinning of the sclera caused by an autoimmune condition (from most common to least) Visit your eyecare professional for a formal diagnosis.

The lower part of my eyeball may appear darker, due to my lack of sleep. Not sleeping enough can create dark patches under the eye, which can cause a contrast in color from the top.

Is it possible that this is only a result of the lighting in the area where you are viewing you own eyes?
