What could be the cause of my parakeet's scaly legs and beak?

As I see it the scaling could be one of two things. It could be something as simple as a form of "dry skin" and you might need a better environment to live in. The second thing it could be is a fungus. Either way I would suggest at least calling a vet to get their opinion.

This could be a case of "Scaly Face" which is caused by mites. You would need to see a vet to have it treated correctly.

Scaly legs and beaks on parakeets is a sign of Parakeet Mites or Burrowing Mites. To treat this condition you can buy sprays at your local pet store and spray the cage but this treatment is only temporary. Make sure the spray is for your pet and not the cage for a cure.

Parakeet's legs are suppose to be a bit scaly, but not abnormal looking. The beak however should not resemble scales. The beak should be hard, smooth and intact; if it is not please consult an Avian Vet this might be a health concern, such as mites.
