What could be causing my Toyota to idle rough when it is cold outside?

Now that winter is here my car has a rough idle, is this related to the cold weather or is something wrong?

You may need to get a tune-up, check your spark plugs, and spark plug wires. You may also want to make certain you put the correct octane gasoline in your engine. Check your user manual.

If you have an older carburated engine then you might have a sticking choke. However if your engine is injected it may nee a good tune up. You may also want to clean out your injectors to make sure they give adequate fuel.

Put it this way, as a person you chill on a cold winter. Much more with less activity. Same as to the Toyota. Especially during start ups. Plus the frozen engine block support just like in a state of rigor mortis. Don't worry so much. Warm it up.

A bad tune up will get worse and more noticeable in cold weather. Remember your engine needs fuel, spark and air to run. The cold air does affect it. You need to have a proffesional check your tuneup. Spark plugs, wires, air filter, coil, all the typical tune up stuff needs to be checked over.
