Question by  jeneias (27)

What could be causing my Ford Taurus to have to be turned over three times prior to it starting?

My Taurus is having a difficult time starting in the morning, could it be the starter, or the battery?

The starter could be going bad. There may be a bad sport on the starter motor. As the starter moves it is able to catch a good part and cause the motor to start. There could also be a bad fuel pump, causing only a small amount of fuel to enter the engine during start-up.

It's not very likely that it is the battery. If it was bad the starter would slow down the more you cranked. As long as the starter cranks every time then it's not the starter. More than likely you either have a bad fuel pump or some kind of timing issues. Do a tune-up and check your fuel system.

Could it be the driver's attitude towards the car? Good maintenance is the best preventive measure. However, other factors to affect are coldness, voltage capacity, and fuel system.

It could be the starter or the battery. If you would like you can take the battery to a local Autozone and they will test the battery for you for free and that would give you a general idea if it is the battery or starter. If the battery is good check the starter and alternator.

neither. On that vehicle it is the fuel injectors. The cold makes it harder for the fuel injectors to dstart spraying fuel through the inntake valve. You should try trunning a high quality fuel system cleaner through the motor and it will turn over much better. Also use throttle body cleaner to clean out the throttle body.

you may have a fuel issue. the fuel pump could be getting weak. you need to let a mechanic check the fuel system.
