What could be causing heat-like behavior in a cat that has already been spayed?

This frequently happens. Spaying surgeries do not always clear out all the sex hormones that cause this behavior. Don't worry, it does not mean the cat can have kittens.

If there was some ovarian tissue missed during the cats spaying procedure she can still ocassionally exhibit the behavior of going into heat.

If the behavior is simply a sharp increase in affection, the cat might just have become more comfortable with humans or other pets. But if the cat is doing anything unusual like howling or assuming unnatural postures, get her to the vet as soon as possible, since it could be a bowel obstruction or organ failure.

If your cat was spayed recently, she could be experiencing false heat. This should eventually go away. However, if it's been 6 months or more since her surgery, it is likely that some ovarian tissue was left behind. Your vet can run tests on hormones and vaginal fluids to determine the problem. Another surgery may be necessary.

If there is left ovarian or testes in the cat, it can produce a heat-like behavior. Ask your vet for a blood test to verify. Also, make sure there isn't anything wrong with the cats Lympth System. Sometimes this can cause a heat-like behavior. Its very rare, but can happen.

You need to bring her back to the vet because it sounds like she had an incomplete spay. That's where a small amount of ovarian tissue was left.

Our cat acted like she was in heat after her spay. I took her to the Veterinarian who had performed the spay. He explained that he opened her up, and the phone rang. He answered the phone and when he came back to the surgery on our cat, he thought he was finished and sewed her back up.
