Ear Mites. The little aphids latch on to the outer ear flaps and cause tissue irritation that itches causing the pooch to scratch vigorously.

It could be caused by an ear infection, or by ear mites. The most likely cause in dogs who go outside is ear mites. The most likely cause in dogs with floppy ears is an infection. You can try cleaning the ears with peroxide and a cotton ball. If it's not better in a few days, see a veterinarian.

Many things: infection, mold, some thing that penetrated skin (like grass)... Be sure to visit your vet and find out what exactly is causing the problem.

Many dogs have ears that fold down (ex beagle, labradors and many others), when they get their ears wet, they tend to build up bacteria causing infection.

starts with a bacteria, or a viral infection unless the dog has been into the red paint cans out in the garage, or whilst he was out " being a dog" and foraging aimlessly
