Inflamed lymph nodes in the breast may be a result of infection as well as the usual suspects of metastatic breast or other cancers.

The lymph nodes in the breast can become inflamed or swollen due to infection or other problems. If fever or other symptoms of infection appear, the nodes may be swollen as part of the immune response. The lymph nodes could be obstructed, which will cause painful swelling. Breast-specific problems - diagnosable by a professional - can also cause such swelling.

Lymph nodes may become inflamed due to the pressure from a mammogram or other physical manipulation, but can indicate a problem- whether the body is fighting off an infection or injury, whatever. Changes that are noticeable to you like this, is your body telling you that it needs assistance.

Exercise can cause inflammation because an increase in body temperature is related to inflammation. Cystic tumors can also cause inflamed lymph nodes and are usually nothing to worry about.
