It can be caused by a variety of factors. The discoloration could result from a serious disease including cancer or something as minor as fatigue or eyestrain. Redness in the eye can be caused by a harmless broken blood vessel. Yellowish eyes can be a sign of jaundice. This symption should be immediately investigated by a qualified physician or opthamologist.

A yellowish tint of the sclera, or white of the eye, is a classic sign of jaundice and indicates problems with the liver. A blue or gray sclera is sometimes associated with osteogenesis imperfecta, a condition involving fragile bones. Excessive redness may be caused by a number of irritants, including bacteria, viruses, makeup, allergens, chlorine from swimming pools, etc.

Eye discoloration is a broad term. Discoloration of the eyeball itself can be the result of an allergic reaction (to animal dander, dust, etc. ) or a more serious infection or traumatic injury. Redness of the eye and surrounding tissue can be due to general bodily fatigue or lack of sleep.

Actually, people can develop freckles in their eyes. Aside from that discoloration could indicate liver malfunctions and one should never ignore this symptom. See a doctor immediately if you have eye discoloration.

Eye discoloration can be due to age and is a natural process. It could also be brought on by allergies or irritants causing the eye to redden, eye drops may help to alleviate this. However it can be a symptom of jaundice or liver disease so it is worth getting checked out by a doctor.

This is hard to answer because I'm not sure where the discoloration is exactly located nor do I know if there are other symptoms involved such as blurred vision, pain, irritation or swelling. If the discoloration is something that you just noticed or if there are other symptoms, seek medical attention.
