Dark circles under eyes are more noticeable and permanent with age.Several causes for dark circles are lack of sleep or excessive tiredness, lack of nutrients in the diet, lack of a balanced diet, iron deficiency, and some food allergies. Continuously itching the skin around eyes can contribute to darker circles.
