The blindness could be caused by a genetic abnormality, the inability of the eye and surrounding nerves to form properly or damage to the eyes in utero.

All kittens are born blind. Their eyesight doesn't fully develop until they are about 5 weeks old. Permanent blindness in kittens is usually either the result of a birth defect such as the optic nerve not developing properly, or an infection that occurred in the womb or soon after birth.

All kittens are born blind and have blue eyes. At about 2 weeks they will open their eyes. Some kittens will never gain sight. Blindness can be caused by a genetic disorder, diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, or injury to the eye. Common infections like conjunctivitis can cause blindness if not properly treated with medication.

Though this may be some kind of genetic defect, there's nothing you did, or could do. This is a birth defect. Often blind kittens live very well, just like humans,actually- better, their senses are so well defined. If Mom doesn't teach her littering, etc, you can- she'll catch on quick.

Easily answered it is probably a genetic occurrence the same for humans. Unless this cat has blind kittens commonly it is just a natural defect. Although you might take the mother cat to the vet and have them check its health. Although most likely it is a genetic birth defect and will not happen again.

If she was the only one born blind, it's just the way things are. You need to make sure she can find her mother, and is not rejected.

Blindess in cats is very similiar to blindness in humans, in the way that there are several different causes. It's mostly likely a genetic condition, but it would be a good idea to him/her to the vet to be sure.

All kittens are born blind. If you are saying it went blind after the two weeks it could be lots of things. It could be that something didn't form right when it was conceived. It could also be that it got something in his/her eyes and it damaged them.

If your cat really "just had kittens", all of them are blind. Kittens are born blind, and their eyes open up about a week later.
