The black spots may be caused by pigments collecting around blood vessels and nerves, and may form with age the same way skin spots develop. They rarely increase in size, and are usually harmless, but check with your ophthalmologist to be safe.

You may have a broken blood vessel that is healing. However, if this spot recently appeared, you should see an eye doctor and let them check it out.

If you have black spots on the scela (the whites of the eye) this could be scleral melanocytosis. Scleral melanocytosis is caused by hyperpigmentation. The main reason for this varies, but generally is transferred through genetics.
