Having a low white blood cell count is very, very bad. It is a (potential) indicator of very serious health issues, such as leukemia, anemia, or infection. There are other possibilities, however: for example, certain prescription drugs and medical treatments can cause a low WBC. Consult your doctor.

There are many causes for a low white blood cell count. Normally this low number does mean that someone is sick or fighting a disease or illness. HIV and AIDS, cancers including leukemia, Hepatitis C and even the flu can cause lower than normal WBC count. Your doctor can perform a test to find out the cause.
