It disrupts lives on many fronts: relationships, finances, employment, driving a car, etc. Alcoholism is called the "disease of denial" because it involves patterns of lies to keep drinking.

Alcoholics will deny over-drinking. They will minimize any outrageous behavior. They will deny blackouts as simply sleeping it off. If shown the volume they drank or video of unacceptable behavior, they will be angry and defensive, criticizing of the person confronting them. They will steal money or sell things to buy alcohol if put on a budget.

FUBAR is a bad place. after about 1 or two pints is about where you want to limit it. After that people are affected differently based on the situation and drunkness. i. e. wrong order at McDonalds Can cause violent behavior.
