A piriformis muscle strain is when the sciatic nerve is compressed. The sciatic nerve runs from your upper leg area to your buttocks. The strain causes pain in that area, which is amplified when a person sits or climbs stairs. A temporary solution is to rotate your leg outward to relive the pain.

A piriformis muscle strain is basically a sciatic nerve that is formed along the buttocks to the upper leg area. If you are sitting and or stair climbing it could make the muscle strain even worse. The best form of action is therapy for relaxing the strain and basic ice routine.
