What can you do about a child who is painfully shy?

My daughter is five and doesn't want to interact with anybody. She does well in school; no behavior problems.

I suggest that you take her places after school and on weekends where she can interact with other children in a less structured environment or involve her in activities where she is essentially made to communicate with other children like soccer or tee ball.

You can help a painfully shy child by encouraging that child and building up that child's self-esteem and self-confidence. Another way is to encourage a variety of activities so that through exposure, the child learns about herself and her own abilities.
