What can cause a 2.7 motor to be overheating?

Lack of lubricant, overheating, needing more water in the radiator. Sometimes engines just basically overheat and need to be left idle or off to sit and cool down.

Overheating is most commonly caused by low coolant levels. If it occurs only at a stadstill, check to insure that the fan is working.

A 2. 7 motor is not very strong. If you have a powerful graphics card it could just be creating too much heat for that little fan to handle.
