You will know when your dog is nesting by its behavior. A nest dog will often find a dark, secluded corner. You can accomodate your dog by placing a comfortable blanket down for them. The dog will also be very anxious and alert during nesting. Nesting dogs do not eat or drink often.

A nesting dog will likely be restless, and will begin arranging the area she hopes to deliver in, by moving blankets, shredding paper, etc.

A very common trait for noting signs of this happening is if the dog is digging at some article on the floor and circling around and around. It shows that the animal will shortly be ready to have her puppies and is therefor trying to make a comfortable place to have them.

Many whelping mothers tend to nest weeks prior to delivery. Nesting behaviors include going into small spaces such as a closet.
