Zen masters pose questions called "koans" to those who are seeking enlightenment. The questions are used in meditation and contemplation, and their purpose is to take the mind to a place of emptiness and stillness. The most famous example is, "What is the sound of one hand clapping? "

"Zen questions" are questions that really make you think, like: "If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? "
