What are these black spots under my toenails?

It is possible that this could be due to injury and small hematomas could be under the toenails. It could also be due to a presentation of foot fungus. Both can be caused by a shoe that is too tight.

If they are under the white part of the nail, they are probably dirt. If not, they could be dirt, but are likely to be some form of fungal infection.

I could be from a bruise you sustained to your toe from stubbing it or something. It could also be from other type of trauma to your toe area. If you are concerned I would contact your doctor and have them evaluate it or check with a podietrist to have it looked at.

Black spots under toe nails are actually dead cells but these can sometimes be dangerous if they become malignant. Better get it checked by a doctor.

There could be bruises under the toenails or possibly fungus. It is a good idea to get this checked out by a foot doctor, especially if painful.
