Most of the time, but not always, shingles appear on the trunk or arms. Sometimes they itch and some people mistake them for poison ivy. There can be mild to severe burning or stinging pain. A doctor will have to diagnose shingles because they can look like other skin conditions.

Shingles is a painful blistery rash that can appear on any part of the body, usually only on one side. It runs along the nerve roots of the skin. It is caused by the same virus as chickenpox.
