Cedar is a natural insect repellent, is a pretty reddish wood, and it smells nice. Some people are allergic however, or associate the scent with rodent bedding.

Cedar wood is an excellent choice for the manufacture of furniture. It is resistant to decay and insect damage, so it does not require any chemical treatments. The natural beauty of the wood is visible in the finished piece. The only con is that cedar can be expensive.

There are many different varieties of Cedar/Cedrus. Cedars contain resins which generally protect wood from insects & moisture. But sometimes cedar-resins can stain other-surfaces if not properly kilned/sealed or if soaked with solvents (water, alcohol, ...) Cedars are a lighter/softer-wood than some hardwoods (oak ...) & tropical-woods (mahogany ...).

Cedar is good to have because it's durable and can hold up against a lot of elements. However it's not the easist to keep looking nice. It can get a wierd color if not properly cared for as well as refinished in due time. Cedar can also become very costly.

Cedar wood is beautiful and impervious to weather, so cedar furniture would last a long time and be attractive. Cedar is also very expensive; there are other woods such as poplar that would be less expensive.
