What are the options for someone who has lyme disease that is not responding to doxycycline?

Tetracycline is an option. Actually, its pretty close, but the lovely thing is it doesn't cause the horrible stomach upset that doxycycline causes. I believe the brand name i took was minocin. I would definitely inquire about it with your doctor.

My wife was in the 3rd stage of lime she had to have a shunt placed by an infectious disease doctor. The medication was injected everyday for 30 days which took about 1 hour. This was an extreme case which caused spinal meningitis from the lime. She is fine now.

Tetracycline could prove to be helpful. Its very close to doxycycline, but I was often switched back and forth between the two when I was not responding to the other one. Tetracycline (Minocin) is also nice, because it doesn't cause the nausea that Doxycline tends to produce.

Lyme Disease must be diagnosed in its early stages and treated for up to 28 days with doxycycline, or it is possible that the doxycycline treatment will not work effectively. In this case, doctors can use an intravenous treatment of Ceftriaxone or penicillin. A second four-week course of doxycycline can be tried, but nothing longer will be beneficial.

Biaxin is what I use because of allergy to Doxy. Biaxin works quicker initially to dispell fever, but longer to cure (for me anyway).
