First you have Reds and Whites and then Dry and Sweet (typically red=dry and white=sweet - tho not always!). Some common wine types are Zinfandels(red and white), Chardonnays, Merlots, Pino Grigio(white), and Pino Nior(red), Ports (dessert wines-red), Moscato(lesser-known SWEET white), and any type of berry or fruit wine.
