Teenagers need to know that their parents love them and are a steady, stable person in their life. Teens need to know that there are boundaries and rules to be acknowledged, but within those boundaries it is safe to experience what life has to offer. Teens need to know that the decisions they make now have lasting consequences.

Teenagers need to know that you are looking out for their safety. That you understand their troubles (share stories and complications you had that are similar).

Always make sure you give your children the sex talk. It's important to do so BEFORE you think they'll be sexually active. Also let your children know you are always there to listen. Sometimes they need a shoulder to cry on.

That life is hard and despite being older you were once a teenager yourself. You know what they are going through and you know that they are going to make mistakes.
