You need a solid, continuously visiting customer base. You need loyal customers who will build on word of mouth. Without constant customers, the restaurant will fail.

Key Ingredients to starting a business: Solid business plan, 6 months operating capital, required permits and licenses, a rental agreement that does not hike your rent up an absurd percentage after the first year of rental, liability insurance (make sure HVAC and plumbing are included), sell items that are marketable.

The key ones are locations, staffing requirements, choice of business name, brand placement, target market. All these must compliment each other in most aspects at least. you must also recognize what product you want to offer your clientèle. Most successful restaurant have a well packaged product that caters for the day to day client.

Management and employees!! If you have "great" food and horrible service, no one will ever visit you. BUT if you have "good" food and award winning staff members, your good to go.

You must achieve the economies of scale by having at least 5 locations to spread the costs of certain overhead expenses. You must standardize all procedures and have a system of checks and balances to make sure all runs smoothly.
