The most common gin, London Dry Gin, is made by redistilling a neutral grain spirit with juniper berries. Other botanicals may be added to enhance the taste such lemon peels, orange peels, cinnamon, and even spices such as nutmeg and corriander.

Gin is basically grain alcohol flavoured by juniper berries. Grain alcohol is usually made out of cereal grains and heavily distilled until it is colourless and flavourless - it becomes gin with the addition of juniper, citrus and other natural flavours.

The only required ingredient is juniper berries (in fact, "gin" derives from "genever", the Dutch word for juniper). Other ingredients are used to alter the flavor; you can find gin seasoned with as different things as anise, coriander, lime, licorice or bitter almonds.
