What are the differences between a hub, switch and router?

I get confused because people use the words interchangeably, I think.

All of the three components are used to connect several computers. The hub just sends every incoming information on every port (even to the port from that the request came). The switch can decide to which direction to send. A router has alwas an own ip adress to join networks.

A switch is like a one way street, a hub is similar, but with multipal lanes, and a router is like a freeway. If you are only wanting to do a home network a switch or hub is fine, but a router would be needed in a business setting.

A hub is a device that takes in information from one port and outputs it to all other ports. A switch tracks data traffic and only sends information to the targeted port. A router passes traffic to wherever it is programmed to. A switch is a smarter version of a hub, and a router is a super switch.
